MK C2 Brake-by-Wire System for Autonomous Driving
- Second generation of Continental's brake-by-wire system is ready for series production
- Integrated design of the high-tech brake reduces weight by about 30 percent
At the TechShow, Continental is presenting the new MK C2 brake-by-wire system, which will go into series production next year. The high-tech brake system integrates master cylinders, brake boosters and ABS and ESC control systems in a compact module. This results in a weight saving of around 30 percent compared to a conventional brake layout. At the same time, the recuperation efficiency of the second generation of Continental's brake-by-wire system was further increased by about a third.
The new MK C2 HAD brake system is additionally equipped with a Hydraulic Brake Extension (HBE) as a redundant fallback level and is therefore designed for highly automated driving. The MK C2 HAD system can be equipped with a conventional brake pedal interface or combined with the electronic brake pedal ePedal. Altogether, Continental's MK C2 brake-by-wire system offers even greater safety plus more functionality, higher efficiency, less weight and more compact dimensions.
