Intelligent Parking: Parking Butler and Automated Collision Avoidance

  • Continental shows solutions for automated parking
  • Innovative collision avoidance prevents parking bumps and minor accidents

At the TechShow, Continental is presenting groundbreaking technologies for comfortable, automated parking – and for avoiding parking bumps and small collisions. Two different parking assistants can be experienced live in demonstration vehicles: an automated system moves the car in or out of the parking space while the driver remains inside. A second, remote parking assistant automatically maneuvers the car even in difficult parking situations or in tight parking spaces while the driver is standing next to it. In addition, Continental will be presenting a collision avoidance assistant that automatically stops a reversing car in the event of obstacles. The system combines radar sensors, surround view cameras, a new ultrasonic sensor and intelligent software for calculating precise environment models.

Autonomous driving does not only mean being able to close your eyes when driving on the motorway in the future. Intelligent assistance systems already enable semi-autonomous driving functions in everyday traffic scenarios. Continental sees great potential for more safety and comfort, especially when it comes to parking. According to a study by Continental, around 40 percent of all accidents involving property damage occur when parking or maneuvering.
