Drum Brake @ Front Axle – Demo Vehicle

  • Hydraulically operated duo-servo drum brake for front and rear axle
  • Reduction of fine brake dust and particle emissions
  • Basic component for the dry drum brake in future brake systems

The reduction of particulate emissions is one of the new requirements for wheel brakes. Depending on the size of the particles emitted, brakes can have harmful effects on human health. While combustion engines have had to meet increasingly stringent emission limits in recent years, wheel brakes is now also coming into focus. For the next few years, the EU Commission is expected to legislate on regulation.

In order to meet these limits, a variety of measures on disc brakes are under development, but these usually lead to high additional costs. Due to the concept, the drum brake already has very good encapsulation and correspondingly low emissions. The concept installed at the Continental TechShow in the test vehicle shows that a drum brake is also possible on the front axle. The duo-servo principle achieves a high braking torque at low actuation forces. This makes the "Drum Brake @ Front Axle" an ideal component for the next generation of dry-operated wheel brakes.
