The Invisible Passenger: Driver Assist Demo Vehicle
- New Continental "Driver Assist" software supports in difficult driving situations
- System takes into account environmental data as well as weather and road conditions
Continental ensures maximum driving safety under all conditions. This is made possible by increasingly precise data collected by a wide variety of sensors in the vehicle. The new assistance software Driver Assist, for example, evaluates information about the vehicle's surroundings, weather data as well as the respective visibility and road conditions. If the system detects that the vehicle is in danger of getting into a critical situation, for example due to the onset of rain or an icy road, it intervenes. The software brings the car back on track, using stability control and steering or braking assistants.
Driver Assist thus acts like an invisible, but always attentive passenger. In critical situations, the system is there immediately and supports the driver in complex driving maneuvers, such as counter steering after the rear has broken away. The software-based technology not only offers increased driving safety under all external conditions, but is also fundamental for future, highly automated driving functions.
