Conti GreenConcept: Sustainable. Lightweight. Efficient.
- Mostly traceable, renewable, and recycled materials used
- Innovative lightweight construction and the possibility of renewing the profile strip contribute to resource conservation and energy efficiency
The innovative Conti GreenConcept tire concept combines current and future technologies for the production of sustainable passenger car tires and aims at the lowest possible consumption of resources along the entire value chain of the tire. Conti GreenConcept has been consistently implemented on three levels of impact: a particularly high proportion oftraceable, renewable and recycled materials, innovative resource-saving lightweight construction technology and an extension of the service life through a renewable tread.
More than half of the Conti GreenConcept tire consists of renewable or recycled materials. The proportion of renewable raw materials used is 35 percent. The bio-materials used include natural rubber from dandelions, silicate from the ashes of rice husks as well as vegetable oils and resins, which significantly reduces the proportion of crude oil-based materials. In addition, the Conti GreenConcept uses 17 percent recycled materials. Besides the recycled steel and carbon black, Continental is installing polyester from recycled plastic bottles in the carcass of a tire for the first time. With a total weight of 7.5 kilograms only the tire is up to 40 percent lighter than a standard tire today. This weight reduction was made possible by an optimized profile of the tread, a special side wall and a new carcass structure including a weight-optimized core. The tire concept stipulates that the tread can be renewed several times and with little time and material effort.
