City Pilot & Automated Valet Parking: Autonomous Everyday Life
- Technology platform combines several Continental solutions for autonomous driving
- More convenient parking via smartphone: New Automated Valet Parking system
Continental continues to drive forward the development of autonomous driving. At the TechShow, a vehicle will be presented in which several current technologies for highly automated driving are combined. This is made possible by the so-called City Pilot, a Level 4 automation solution designed for urban traffic. The technology is based on assistance systems such as Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist or Adaptive Cruise Control. Their hardware and software have been further developed for the City Pilot – also through the use of artificial intelligence. Part of the system is also the "Automated Valet Parking" function. It enables driverless parking in and out of parking garages. The process can be started via smartphone, everything else is handled independently by the vehicle. And it also automatically drives out of the parking garage at the push of a button to let the driver comfortably get into the vehicle at the exit.
The aim of the City Pilot is to close existing software and hardware gaps and thus promote autonomous driving in cities. These are considered the most demanding and at the same time the most promising area of application for highly automated driving systems.
