AUTO BILD Presents Continental WinterContact TS 870 P with two Awards

  • Winter tire from Continental enjoys double success
  • "AUTO BILD Allrad" and "AUTO BILD sportscars" each award their best rating “exemplary”
  • Tests conducted with 245/45 R 18 tires on an all-wheel-drive Cupra Formentor and 235/35 R 19 tires on an all-wheel-drive BMW M135i

Hanover, Germany, October 11, 2024. The tire specialists at German motoring magazines "AUTO BILD Allrad" and "AUTO BILD sportscars" handed the WinterContact TS 870 P their top rating "exemplary" twice in one day (AUTO BILD winter tire test 2024, content in German only). Both publications emphasized the high safety standards of the Continental tire. The testers from "AUTO BILD Allrad" described it as a "top-class tire with excellent driving characteristics on snow-covered and wet surfaces, good safety reserves when aquaplaning, short braking distances and low rolling resistance", while "AUTO BILD sportscars" referred to "a very convincing winter tire with exemplary qualities on wet and dry surfaces, one of the best in terms of snow handling" and underlined its "good, safe aquaplaning responses". In test runs on snow-covered, wet and dry asphalt, the Continental tire posted scores between 1- and 2, reflecting its well-balanced performance in the respective test disciplines.

As well as the Continental tire’s excellent showing on snow, the magazine experts also highlighted its strong safety reserves on wet surfaces. Indeed, in the "AUTO BILD Allrad" test, its braking distance from 80 km/h (50 mph) was eleven meters shorter than that of the last-placed tire. That is roughly equivalent to the length of two-and-half small cars. In the winter conditions typically encountered in Central Europe – where snow-covered, rain-soaked and cold, wet roads dominate – this represents a significant safety boost for all road users. The WinterContact TS 870 P also earned praise for its low rolling resistance, claiming the best score awarded in the test: 1-. Low rolling resistance helps electric vehicles to increase their range, while cutting the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures of conventionally powered cars and reducing driving costs overall.

The Continental WinterContact TS 870 P is suitable for passenger cars from the midsize class upwards and for SUVs. It impresses with precise, safe handling in typical winter road conditions and on dry and wet surfaces. The WinterContact TS 870 P is produced for wheel rims with diameters between 16 and 22 inches, in widths between 205 and 325 millimeters and with aspect ratios from 70 to 35 percent. It has a speed rating of up to 270 km/h (168 mph), depending on tire size.
