Hanover, November 1, 2016. International technology company Continental has appointed Kurt Lehmann (54) as Corporate Technology Officer (CTO). Lehmann, who began his career at Continental in 1986 working in development in Auburn Hills, Michigan, U.S.A., has been Continental’s Senior Vice President Corporate Systems & Technology since January 1, 2016. He reports directly to Dr. Elmar Degenhart, chairman of the Executive Board. “The focal point of this newly created role of Corporate Technology Officer at Continental revolves around formulating our company’s long-term technological strategy,” states Degenhart, explaining the objective behind the new role. This makes Lehmann the central contact for customers and business partners on strategic technological and innovation matters.

The diverse tasks entrusted to the CTO primarily include enhancing Continental’s innovative prowess. To this end, the technology company is focusing, among other things, on technology trend scouting centered on the future-related fields of automation, electrification, connectivity, and new mobility services. This will also involve exploring the possibilities offered by artificial intelligence and new wireless technology across all business units, including new equipment or robotics for future products.

Other tasks include further developing research and development processes, methods, and instruments in relation to embedded software and coordinating the ongoing optimization of Continental’s global research and development network.
