Hanover, Germany, October 30, 2024. The editors of the European Rubber Journal have honored Continental's UltraContact NXT with the Future Tire & Rubber Award in the "Advanced Design: Tires" category. With this award, the trade journal recognizes Continental's success in developing a tire that combines a high proportion of sustainable materials with maximum safety and performance.

"We are delighted to receive this award from the European Rubber Journal in recognition of our extensive efforts in making the tire industry and mobility more sustainable," said Maria Hanczuch, Head of Program Management Private Mobility Tires at Continental. "By 2030, our tires will contain more than 40 percent renewable and recycled materials. The UltraContact NXT is an important step for us to achieve our ambitious goals in this area."

Depending on its tire size, the UltraContact NXT has a share of up to 65 percent renewable, recycled and ISCC PLUS mass balance certified materials. Renewable materials stand up to 32 percent and the proportion of recycled materials is up to five percent. Furthermore, Continental sourced up to 28 percent ISCC PLUS mass balance approach certified materials from bio, bio-circular and/or circular feedstock. All available sizes have the highest rating of the EU tire label ("A") in the areas of rolling resistance, wet braking and external noise.

The UltraContact NXT has already won several awards since its market launch, including the Sustainability Award at the Swiss Automotive Show Innovation Awards 2023, the International Design Award 2023 and the German Innovation Award 2024.

This is the inaugural year for the Future Tire & Rubber Awards which have been created by the European Rubber Journal and it is a real honor for Continental to be recognized in this first year. Speaking on the win Patrick Raleigh, editor at the European Rubber Journal, said:

"Combining a remarkably high level of sustainable materials with high-end levels of safety and performance, Continental's UltraContact NXT is a worthy winner of our top innovation award, all 19 sizes available are said to carry the top 'A' rating of the EU tire label for rolling resistance, wet braking, and exterior noise."

The European Rubber Journal has been reporting on the global rubber and tire industry for more than 130 years and is regarded as the world's leading trade journal in this field.
