Hanover, Germany, September 2, 2024. The new WinterContact 8 S from Continental has got off to a flying start in the sales charts. With its focus on maximizing grip on dry and wet roads, it has been conceived with high-powered members of the automotive elite in mind. To this end, it offers exceptional dry handling and very short braking distances on dry and wet road surfaces, allowing owners to use their sports cars, sports SUVs, powerful sedans and other sporting models to their full potential in the colder months of the year as well. And it also delivers a high level of safety in typical winter conditions, including snow-covered roads, enabling assured progress even when temperatures plunge.
With the WinterContact 8 S, Continental’s tire engineers have come up with some new developments for the tread pattern and tread compound. For example, the directional tread has a "multitasking" design, enabling it to meet the highest grip requirements on dry and wet roads. And the rubber compound provides reliable grip on cold and wet surfaces, including snow-covered routes. As well as displaying the attributes required for dynamic driving in more powerful passenger cars, the new WinterContact 8 S also scores well for sustainability: it earns the EU tire label’s “B” rating for its low rolling resistance, an important factor in maximizing the range of electric cars and reducing the fuel consumption of conventionally powered models. It also claims the EU tire label’s “B” rating for braking distances – a very good result for a winter tire, reflecting its safety levels on wet roads.
The line-up includes tires for rims 19 – 22 inches in diameter, with speed ratings as high as 270 km/h (168 mph). The new winter tire from Continental is suitable for vehicles with all types of drive system and has indeed the “EV-compatible” logo on the sidewall (EV = electric vehicle). It is suitable for models such as the Audi RS 3, Bentley Continental GT, BMW i7, Maserati Grecale, Mercedes GT 63 and EQS 53, Porsche Panamera 4S E-Hybrid and Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
