AutoBild: Continental’s new winter tyre is the test winner and “eco champion”

  • New WinterContact TS 870 takes first place in AutoBild
  • Editorial team: “Impressive handling characteristics in all weather conditions and excellent mileage”
  • Continental winter tyre beats 49 competitors

Hanover, 7 October 2021. In AutoBild’s major winter tyre test (issue dated 7/10/2021), 50 models from international brands of the 205/55 R 16 H dimension, including the new WinterContact TS 870 from Continental, had to face the specialist editors. It came first in the tests, was awarded the attribute “exemplary” and also received the title of “eco champion” due to its excellent mileage. In the tests with a VW Golf VIII, the new Continental model scored top marks each time on snow, in wet conditions and in terms of the costs. “New winter profile with impressive handling characteristics in all weather conditions, short braking distances, precise steering precision, good aquaplaning safety, very good mileage”, was the verdict of the experts after testing the WinterContact TS 870. Of the 50 winter tyre models, 30 test specimens had already been eliminated after the preliminary tests of brake performance on wet and snowy roads, and the 20 best tyres were then assessed in a total of 16 categories on snow, wet and dry roads, as well as in terms of their cost-effectiveness.

The WinterContact TS 870 has been developed for vehicles in the mini and compact class. With the new Continental winter tyre, even sporty compact cars can safely get through the cold season. The product range initially includes 21 articles for rims with a diameter of 14 to 17 inches, with tyre cross-sections from series 45 to 65 and widths of 175 to 225 millimetres – including those with a rim protection rib and XL marking for an increased load capacity. Speed approvals range up to 240 km/h.

Products from the other Continental Group brands Semperit, Uniroyal and Barum also qualified for the test of the 20 best winter tyre models. They each received a “satisfactory” rating. In the overall result, four products in the test achieved an “exemplary” rating, four were “good” and 12 were “satisfactory”.
