ARAS Demobike: Safety Assistants for Motorcycles

  • Radar- and camera-based assistance systems as intelligent co-pilots for bikers
  • Innovative security technologies detect and mitigate critical situations

Continental makes motorcycling safer. Proven sensor and assistance technologies are now also available for motorcycles. The ARAS (Advanced Rider Assistance Systems) functions include the following safety systems: a blind spot and lane change assistant, intelligent adaptive cruise control, a collision warning system, traffic sign recognition and an intelligent headlight assistant. Together, these radar- or camera-based assistance systems act like an always attentive co-pilot who detects critical situations – for example, when overtaking, before changing lanes, or when road users suddenly appear at the end of a traffic jam on the motorway – in fractions of a second and helps to defuse them. Warning signals in the mirror or on the display alert motorcyclists of another vehicle in the blind spot or draw their attention to critical situations.

The systems also work when cornering at an angle, and they do not only warn. If, for example, the motorcyclist ignores the signal from the collision warning system, the emergency braking assistant helps to shorten the stopping distance by applying the brakes. The ARAS functions with proven Continental technologies thus significantly improve the level of safety for bikers.
