Cloud Solutions and Security

In a world of increasing digitalization and connected mobility, modern cars are being equipped with more and more computers and their architecture is changing. The key motivation for changing to a new electronics architecture is the full connectivity of vehicles. Just as in smartphones, in the vehicle of the future, it will be standard to have the latest soft- and firmware and integrate new functions swiftly via over-the-air updates.

As a consequence, the automotive industry is going through a period of rapid change and automotive suppliers need to adapt accordingly – and fast.

At our TechTalk on September 1,2021, you were able to learn about how one of the leading consultancy experts sees the automotive industry transformation, how Amazon Web Services and Continental are approaching their partnership and how Continental is ensuring the security of their joint cloud platform.

On the agenda:

  • The Car as part of the IoT – Implications for the Automotive industry
Dr. Wolfgang Bernhart, Global Co-Head Advanced Technology Center, Roland Berger
  • Unlocking Automotive Transformation with Amazon Web Services
Jon Allen, Director Automotive, Amazon Web Services
  • IoT Ecosystem Architecture Transformation
Michael Hülsewies, Senior Vice President Architecture & Software, Continental
  • Security for Automotive Ecosystems
Dr. Mathias Dehm, Cyber Security Expert, Continental

Please find here the presentation on the topic of "Cloud Solutions and Security" - pdf (4.93MB) for download.

Our first speaker, Dr. Wolfgang Bernhart, Roland Berger, has shared results of a recent global survey, which will showcase customers´ embrace of innovative new driver assistance functions and how significant changes in technology and business models will be required. He will also focus on how software functions tied to OEM-specific hardware will need upgradability and scalability. See here the report - pdf (2.23MB).

In the second session, Jon Allen, AWS Automotive, has explained how the cloud is enabling automotive transformation with real world examples and use cases. You were able to learn about the important roles that the cloud and the Continental Automotive Edge platform play in this transformation, enabling OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to gather data from the vehicle and apply machine learning in the cloud to develop next-generation technologies, like AV and more.

Michael Hülsewies, Continental, has illustrated how the transformation of vehicle architectures drives the need for new solutions, partnerships and creates new opportunities. You were able to learn about how Continental Automotive Edge framework combines vehicle, cloud and development environments under one umbrella and creates uniform, but also open interfaces.

Modern vehicles contain more than 100 mio. lines of code – roughly twice the number of widely used operating systems. In addition to this complexity, the number of interfaces is increasing. Dr. Mathias Dehm, Continental, has focused on how automotive ecosystems need to be protected from hackers and explain how security and privacy will be considered in the Continental Automotive Edge framework in order to protect the automotive ecosystem.
