New roles – the transformation of the intelligent tachograph into a versatile problem solver

The recently adopted Mobility Package I of the European Union has shown how this transformation can be done: A transport policy problem, in this case the control of cabotage, is solved by means of modern technology and the automated exchange of data. However, to ensure full legal security, the data must be totally reliable for all users. In the future, the intelligent tachograph will fulfill the role of this universally trustworthy data supplier – but transport policy is not the sole beneficiary of the intelligent tachograph data, because companies can also use it to establish new services and business models. Continental has already created the relevant interfaces.

This panel explains how the DTCO 4.1 implements the requirements of Mobility Package I and how the tachograph can also become a problem solver in other areas.
