Tennis Balls and Football Stadiums
In the late 19th century, Continental not only manufactured pneumatic tires for bicycles and cars, it also produced other consumer goods made of soft rubber. Tennis balls, for instance, were produced at the Vahrenwald plant, where 20 people made 100 tennis balls by hand in one day. Only later did Continental gradually add the first industrial products to its portfolio.
The company has maintained its product diversity to this day. Continental equips some of the largest and most important stadiums in the world with its coatings and upholstery. In the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, for example, seats remain at a pleasant temperature despite long days of relentless sun, thanks to the special ’cool colors’ technology.
