Education – as a basis for later life and an important way of opening the door to our own future – is almost a matter of course for us. Unfortunately, for many children and adolescents around the world, it is not everyday life yet. Projects such as UERÊ by founder Yvonne Bezerra de Mello exist to change this for as many children as possible. In her school, she offers socially excluded children and young people from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro a place of freedom to act and a space to develop their own ideas. Since 1993, Yvonne Bezerra de Mello has been fighting to give her students a real chance of a self-determined future. Cibelle is one of these students. The girl has been a pupil of UERÊ since 2013, and her biggest dream is to become a fashion designer. In the third episode of our Heartbeat Stories, you will find out how Yvonne Bezerra de Mello and the UERÊ project stand by her side to offer her tailored, personal support. The story of a significant project that not only makes it possible for children and young people to dream big, but also to realize these dreams.
