Sustainable Education and Training

Learning Sustainability - with the Right Programs for Everyone

How can I become professionally involved in the topic of sustainability? Continental has more than one answer to this question. In addition to anchoring content in apprenticeships and study programs, we also offer topic-specific workshops and further training: from study programs such as environmental protection technology to sustainability simulations with a gamification approach and energy scout training.

Turning Sustainability into a Profession

We teach sustainable content in all of our apprenticeships and degree programs. Young talents who are passionate about technical topics, sustainability and environmental protection and are looking for a dual study program will also find what they are looking for at Continental: The two dual Bachelor's degree programs ‘Energy and Building Technology’ and ‘Sustainable Science and Technology - Environmental Protection Technology’ combine these areas perfectly.

Dual study programs in energy and building technology bring innovative environmental protection to building equipment. Together with our experts, they develop solutions for solar thermal energy, photovoltaics and geothermal energy. The Environmental Protection Technology program deals with dangers to people and the environment and how we can protect them with modern technologies.

„Sustainability Game Experience’ - Learning Sustainability through Play

‘Sustainability doesn't work alone!’ This is the motto of the workshop offered to trainees at the Hanover-Stöcken site to sensitise them to the topic of sustainability. The Trainees go through the ‘Sustainability Game Experience’ simulation in a fun way and experience the importance of sustainability.

The trainees are divided into teams and given the task of making sustainable decisions together - taking into account the pillars of economy, ecology and social responsibility. In this way, they learn that sustainability not only has a positive impact on the environment, but also pays off economically in the long term.

The simulation illustrates the interactions between the pillars and raises the question of how the trainees can become active themselves. The second half of the workshop is then all about: What can I personally do - both in a private and a business context?

  • Correct waste disposal
  • Forming carpools
  • Optimising facilities for less material waste
  • Sustainable (work) clothing
  • Light sensors in production

With a final ‘sustainable speech’ in which everyone speaks briefly about and in favour of the climate, the trainees return to their everyday work to apply what they have learned.

We Train Apprentices to Become Energy Experts

Climate protection is part of our ecological and social responsibility. For this reason, we offer our trainees training courses on energy topics to sensitise them to the issue. Those who want to delve deeper can train to become an energy scout, usually in conjunction with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, including an official certificate.

Over 100 trainees at several locations have already successfully completed this program.

In addition to the basics of saving energy, the participants also develop new ideas together to optimise energy consumption at Continental. For example, the trainees learn how to compare LED and incandescent lamps, carry out an amortisation calculation and realise that an LED lamp pays for itself very quickly compared to an incandescent lamp. This makes them multipliers for energy and environmental issues in the company.
