How setting goals helps me in my progression

The inspiring journey of Casper, who became the marketing manager in Denmark, just 3.5 years after starting with Continental.

In 2018 I started my Continental journey, never have I thought that it could develop so quickly and in such a positive matter like it has. Continental is in many ways a unique place to work at. Our network is huge, larger than I had ever experienced before, and if you reach out, share your thoughts, wisdom and opinions, then you will see how people from all over the world can help you.

Back in 2018 when I started as a Marketing Communication Specialist, my former boss asked me “where do you see you self in 5 years”. A classic question, which in many ways can be difficult to answer. I answered to him that I saw myself in his shoes – he laughed and said, “well let’s make that happen then”. That immediately put pressure on my shoulders, now it was out – but I had a clear goal. So, for the next 3,5 years I gained as much knowledge as I possibly could. Expanded my network within Continental and tried to make an impact. But most importantly, I tried really hard with a lot of determination.

So, with a new mindset, a digital approach and the willingness to try new things, I tried to turn the super tanker company Continental from an older mindset to a digital approach alongside with my former boss Claus. And it worked! We really did some great stuff, tried new things and were not afraid of failing. The last thing was a key for me and our success. Don’t be afraid to fail, it is where you learn the most – but also, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Seek discomfort, you will experience that these incidents shape you and develop you in a way you couldn’t imagine.

Fortunately, the hard work paid off – just before my 33rd birthday I signed the contract for my new position as the Marketing Manager at Continental Denmark, just 3,5 years after I started my journey at this fantastic company. Now, new goals have to be set, new challenges are ahead, and I have to be willing to step out of my comfort zone once again – but hey, that’s what I live for.

Here’s to being part of a wonderful company, who makes a great effort in growing their own talents. Thank you, Continental, thank you Claus 🙏
