Tires for a Better Tomorrow

We only have one planet on which we can get from A to B with perfect grip, optimum material properties, and unparalleled tire quality. This is why sustainability and carbon-neutral production are at the heart of everything we do. As part of our team, you have the opportunity to join forces with motivated colleagues in pursuit of a clear goal: to be the most innovative tire company in terms of the environment and social responsibility. To this end, we continuously drive the development of new recycling technologies and sustainable solutions along our entire value chain and for all our types.

Fighting Climate Change with Innovation

Continental’s tire print is large. Almost one in three cars in Europe is supplied with our tires. That’s why sustainable transport is not only at the top of our agenda, but is also deeply rooted in our core values. We believe that sustainable and responsible business practices increase our ability to innovate and prepare us better for the future. And that it is our mission to continue to be technological leaders in order to contribute to the carbon-free world of tomorrow.
We attach great importance to manufacturing our products in the most resource-friendly way possible. We are also constantly introducing new innovations in the areas of recycling and waste disposal.

Sustainability in Motion

Wherever the journey takes us next, we already know the destination: a cleaner, more sustainable, and carbon-neutral future. Not only have we set ourselves ambitious goals for the future, but we are already taking concrete steps to achieve them. With the Conti GreenConcept tire, we have unveiled an innovation that shows what the tire of the future might look like. Sustainable ingredients such as taraxagum (rubber made from dandelions), which was developed in collaboration with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, are already being used in bicycle tires and prototypes of truck tires. We are also still making improvements in the area of tire design: a tire with lower rolling resistance increases a vehicle’s range or fuel efficiency. Ongoing development and the associated increase in knowledge around the topic of driving pave the way for a better future.

One Value Chain. Countless Product Innovations.

A value chain comprises all the steps required from a product’s development to its manufacture. At Continental, we are constantly working on optimizing and increasing sustainability. Our expertise and experience drive us to develop product innovations and to champion the use of resource-saving materials.

Responsibly sourcing sustainable materials can be complex. We are investing in research, technology, and eco-friendly production, the aim being to use 100% sustainable materials in our tires by 2050. For example, we are expanding recycling technologies and using PET bottles in production in order to enable energy- and resource-saving manufacturing. We are also committed to the ongoing development of technologies in the field of waste disposal and recycling. With the ContiLifeCycle, we have succeeded in returning rubber from old tires to the production process for new and retreaded tires. There is still a long way to go before the loop is fully closed – but one thing is certain: we are headed in the right direction.

The People behind Our Sustainable Tires

Tires are subject to wear and tear, but at Continental we strive to make both the product and our processes as sustainable as possible. To this end, we research materials, energy topics, and disposal. In all these areas, fresh ideas are constantly needed, along with the courage to think outside the box.
